Aprils fools day started a long 400 years ago in France. A pope decided to alter the first day of the year from 1st April to 1st January and we have been stuck with it since. The thing was some people were a bit slow to realize and kept celebrating as if it was still the 1st January. So all the less dumb people laughed at them, calling them 'April fools' and played tricks on them - and that's how it all started!

One of the best pranks ever televised was on a TV documentary called "Panorama" in 1957. It featured spaghetti hanging down from trees in Italy and it looked as if it were growing from them. The film looked so real it fooled half of the country.

Another TV program called "That's Life" also fooled it's viewers by making them believe that a purple creature called 'Lirpa Loof' had been discovered in the Amazon jungle. But if you turn the name around, you can see how stupid they were.

But one of the greatest pranks ever played on national television was in 1996. A gag-pulling show called "Beadle" had created a scene where it seemed that a meteorite had landed in an old lady's house. As the prank went on the old lady was so convinced but shocked that an alien had come to visit her. She kept talking to the alien and even offered to sing to it!
